RICHMOND, VA (April 28, 2012)- The Elite Clubs National League announced the All-Event Teams from the third event in the 2011-2012 ECNL National Showcase Event Series, which was held February 24-26, 2012 in San Antonio, TX. A total of 126 teams from 47 ECNL Member Clubs participated in the event, with games taking place at the Star Soccer Complex.  

The ECNL All-Event Teams are selected based upon nominations from coaches and scouts based upon individual and team performances over the course of the three-game event. At the Texas event, seven clubs placed at least three players on All-Event Teams, including four players each from Solar-Chelsea Soccer Club and Dallas Sting. A total of 23 different ECNL Member Clubs were represented among the 44 honored players.

RICHMOND, VA. (April 26, 2012): The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) and US Club Soccer have announced that the 2012 ECNL / id² National Training Camp will be held July 23-25 at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., presented by Nike’s The Chance.

At the camp, approximately 100 of the top female youth soccer players born between 1993 and 1996 from across the United States will come together for three days of elite training, competition and presentations at one of the world’s premier athletic facilities, where U.S. Soccer staff will scout players for potential inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs. 

A select team of 18 players will be identified from the camp for an international soccer experience of a lifetime. In addition, these players will be invited to attend Mia Hamm’s TeamFirst Academy to work alongside the former U.S. international and her staff as mentors to younger players.

The camp is a joint effort between the ECNL, US Club Soccer’s id² National Player Identification and Development Program, and Nike’s The Chance. Consistent with the philosophy of US Club Soccer’s id² Program, the 2012 ECNL / id² National Training Camp is open to all players regardless of U.S. Soccer affiliation, or lack thereof.  Olympic Development Program status applies to all id² Program events, including the 2012 ECNL / id² National Training Camp.

Nike’s The Chance was created in 2010 to support young talented athletes to give them opportunities to showcase their skills in front of elite coaches and mentors, as well as to further develop their own talent in an effort to get noticed. Since its creation, The Chance has been a one-of-a-kind global soccer talent search for aspiring male players.

For the first time, U.S. girls will get their shot at The Chance, too.

“The Chance is an opportunity to realize your dream of playing and training at the highest level,” said ECNL Commissioner Sarah Kate Noftsinger. “The partnership has expanded this once-in-a-lifetime soccer experience to girls, providing them an opportunity to prove themselves on an elite stage, domestically and internationally. At the camp, players will have a chance to compete with and against the best players in the country and be identified to compete internationally while working alongside soccer legends like Mia Hamm, learning what it takes to be true ambassadors of the game.“

The 2012 ECNL / id² National Training Camp is a part of US Club Soccer’s id² Program. There is no cost to players aside from travel to and from the camp. Lodging, meals and training gear are provided by the ECNL, US Club Soccer and Nike.

“The combined efforts of Nike, the ECNL and US Club Soccer will make this camp a once-in-a-lifetime soccer experience,” said US Club Soccer Executive Vice President Christian Lavers.

In addition to the 2012 ECNL / id² National Training Camp, Nike World Headquarters will also host the 2012 ECNL Annual General Meeting. RICHMOND, VA. (April 10, 2012): The ECNL has announced the hiring of Jay Howell as the first Executive Director of the ECNL, beginning Monday, April 9, 2012.

"This is truly an exciting step forward for the ECNL,” said ECNL Commissioner Sarah Kate Noftsinger. “Jay is a known leader with an amazing track record of elevating organizations and delivering great results. We are absolutely thrilled to have someone of his caliber joining our team.“

In his role as Executive Director, Jay will be responsible for managing the external partnerships of the ECNL, and will oversee all league activities.

“We are really excited to have Jay join the ECNL on a full-time basis,” said ECNL President Christian Lavers. “Not only has Jay been a part of the ECNL from its inception, he also brings a wealth of soccer and management experience to the league, and will help us continue to make the ECNL the best female youth soccer developmental platform in the world.”

Jay has a long history in youth soccer, having worked as the Director of Coaching at CASL in North Carolina for 11 years. While at CASL, he helped the organization grow to be one of the largest and most progressive soccer clubs in the country. Following his time at CASL, Jay worked as the Executive Director / Director of Coaching for Birmingham United Soccer Association for the past 2 years.

RICHMOND, VA. (March 22, 2012):  From the approximately 80 clubs that applied for membership into the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) for the 2012-13 season, seven new clubs have been accepted as ECNL member clubs. The new clubs accepted for the 2012-13 season are:

“The application process becomes more difficult every year,” said ECNL President Christian Lavers. “We are excited to have seven new clubs that will make the ECNL an even stronger and more robust developmental platform, many of which will also help the ECNL reach players in new geographic areas.”

New member acceptance decisions were based on multiple different factors, including: 1) long-term club history in female soccer, 2) long-term history in development of female soccer players, 3) club leadership and management structure, 4) club vision and philosophy, and 5) geographical considerations.

“The ECNL will continue to lead female soccer in creating developmentally-focused national competition, scouting-based and no-cost player identification platforms, and club and coaching education initiatives,” said ECNL Vice President Doug Bracken. “These seven new clubs will join the existing ECNL member clubs in furthering positive change in girls youth soccer.”

SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 28, 2012): The Elite Clubs National League, the nation's top girls' youth soccer competition, staged another successful National Showcase Event in this soccer-loving Texas city over the weekend, highlighting future college and international stars while packing hotel rooms and contributing millions of dollars to the local economy.

Strong winds and firm playing surfaces at the South Texas Area Regional Soccer Complex forced teams to sharpen their focus and adapt their playing styles to the conditions. But the overall quality of play remained excellent as leading teams from national powerhouses like Dallas Texans, Colorado Rush and Michigan Hawks staked their claims for top honors in ECNL's "National Flight" competition.

"The weather conditions challenged the players this weekend, but the top talent still rose to the top," said ECNL Commissioner Sarah Kate Noftsinger. "We're very grateful to the STAR Soccer Complex, the San Antonio Scorpions and the entire San Antonio community for being fantastic hosts, and we look forward to returning for future events."

ECNL stages five National Showcase events per season, each one bringing upwards of 3,000 hotel room nights and an estimated $3-4 million in direct economic impact to its host community.1 Since the league's founding in 2009, ECNL events have become crucial locations for identifying and tracking top players, characterized by a high density of elite talent and an advanced level of play which is unsurpassed in the United States.

"Every game is so heightened in intensity and the quality of soccer is really good. So it forces your team to really show up and play," said Hugh Bradford, coach of the Under-16 ECNL team from D'Feeters Soccer Club of Farmer's Branch, Texas. "When you come to a national event like this, you get to meet teams from other parts of the country that are playing as well, if not better. So it's great."

More than 200 college soccer coaches also made the trip to San Antonio to track top recruits and decide which players will receive athletic scholarships. All ranked ECNL National Showcases among their most important destinations in the recruiting process.

"ECNL has brought better teams together," said Phil Stephenson, associate head coach at NCAA women's soccer power Texas A&M University. "From standpoint of evaluating talent, you're watching talent play against talent all the time. You rarely get a wasted game from an evaluation standpoint. That's what ECNL does."

Several leading teams in ECNL's National Flight A took a further step towards securing one of the coveted 16 spots in the ECNL National Championship, which takes place this summer, while others further down the standings focused on using the weekend's games to further their players' technical and tactical development.

The tournament in San Antonio, along with the league's four other National Showcase Events in Phoenix, Ariz., Sanford, Fla., San Diego, Calif. and Zarephath, N.J., collectively dubbed "The Road to Waukegan," will help determine ECNL's national champions with the season culminating in the 2012 ECNL National Championship at the Waukegan Sports Park in Chicago, Ill. in late June.

Each team at the Under-15 and U-18 age groups participates in two national events, while each team at the U-16 and U-17 age groups participates in three of these events. Arizona hosted the season's opening showcase in October, followed by the Florida event in late December. The season's final showcases will take place San Diego, Calif. March 31-April 2 and Zarepath, N.J. May 26-28.

Based in the northern San Diego suburb of Rancho Santa Fe, the ECNL National Showcase: San Diego featured Under-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 action in a showcase format with one match per day from Saturday through Monday.

A very high standard of play is the norm at ECNL National Showcases, and the action in San Diego again included teams from national contenders like Colorado Rush, PDA (N.J.), FC Stars of Massachusetts, Mustang FC (Tex.) and Bethesda SC (Md.) along with a strong contingent from the host state, including San Diego Surf, So Cal Blues, Arsenal FC, Slammers FC and others.

The event, along with the league’s four other National Showcase Events in Phoenix, Ariz., Sanford, Fla., San Antonio, Tex. and Zarephath, N.J., collectively dubbed “The Road to Waukegan,” are played in a tournament format, but technically qualify as "league games" that help determine ECNL’s national champions. The season cluminates at the 2012 ECNL National Championship at the Waukegan Sports Park in Chicago, Ill. in late June.

RICHMOND, VA (August 19, 2011): From August 8th to 15th, the 2011 ECNL / id2 International Select team was in and around London, England playing top youth academy teams, taking in the sights, and learning about traveling and playing together as international representatives of some of the best the USA has to offer. 

The 2011 ECNL/id2 International Tour roster is comprised of the top 17 ECNL players in the 1994 and 1995 age groups, selected based on their performances over the ECNL season and at the 2011 ECNL/id2 National Training Camp in Tallahassee, Florida, in February 10-13, 2011. Fourteen different ECNL Clubs are represented in the team, with FC Stars of Massachusetts leading the way with three players on the roster.

Nike and the ECNL covered all of the costs associated with the tour, including airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, and food. Accompanying the team were ECNL Commissioner Sarah Kate Noftsinger, coaches Jay Howell (Birmingham FC) and Chris King (Ohio Premier), and Emily Fortunato, physical trainer from M.O.S.T.

Two media professionals also accompanied the group documenting and reporting on the trip from multiple perspectives. Fay Wells of ESPN High School (formely ESPN RISE) and Chris Hummer of National Soccer Wire filed multiple stories, photos, and videos.

While the trip itself ended on the 15th, the sheer volume of video recorded should continue to supply new pieces to be shared with the world. The ECNL will have two different team competition standings and corresponding championships in the 2011-2012 season:

• (i) the ECNL Conference Standings and ECNL Conference Champions; and 
• (ii) the ECNL National Championship Standings and ECNL National Champions.
