AYW Spotlight | Kaylann Boyd

  • October 6, 2016

RICHMOND, VA (October 5, 2016) – The ECNL and the Amazing Young Women movement is dedicated to showcasing the females that have helped shape the league into the top female youth soccer platform in the world.  As part of the movement, the ECNL is encouraging amazing young women to share their stories.  We are excited to announce Kaylann Boyd as the ECNL Amazing Young Woman Spotlight of the Week. Boyd is a current freshman forward for Vanderbilt University and ECNL Alumni of Tophat Soccer Academy out of Atlanta, Georgia.

Boyd was named SEC Freshman of the Week this week after she scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute of Vanderbilt’s double overtime win over Tennessee. Boyd’s game-winner was her first shot of the night, but she had also contributed to the score sheet with an assist on Vanderbilt’s first goal of the night. This marked her third goal of the season.

“Kaylann’s strength is in and around the 18-yard box. She has innate qualities when it comes to finishing chances and she is showing that this fall,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach Darren Ambrose. “She is getting better each week. We were very happy that she was recognized by the SEC for her efforts.”

Boyd is a native of Atlanta, Georgia where she played for Troy Garner at ECNL member club, Tophat Soccer Club. Garner coached Boyd throughout her elite level career at Tophat and noted her technical ability and praised her strengths not only as a target player and scorer, but as an excellent passer with great vision. As a player for Tophat, Boyd’s teams were extremely successful, winning several showcase tournaments and three state championships. She also won two high school state championships, one as captain in her final season.

“I think that the quality training environment at Tophat and the quality competition that Kaylann faced on a weekly basis in the Southeast Conference of ECNL helped prepare her for the daily physical and psychological grind of training at Vanderbilt and competing in the SEC conference,” Troy Garner said about Boyd. “I think that her experiences with both have been a positive contributing factor to her initial, and hopefully continued, success at Vanderbilt.”

We wish Kaylann Boyd the best of luck in this current college season. Thank you for being an Amazing Young Woman.
