ECNL to Lead Clinic with U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success Program and the Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley
RICHMOND, VA (November 3, 2015) – Coaches and Players from the Nation’s Top Female Youth Soccer League will lead a clinic to empower young girls from the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success program, run locally by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley.
Nearly 90 girls from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley will take to the field and train with some of the nation’s top youth soccer educators. The majority of the Club participants hail from the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success program, an afterschool program run locally by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley that uses soccer as a tool to combat children’s health and social issues that can lead to juvenile delinquency.
The Club will receive soccer kits and equipment to be used during the clinic and for future East Valley players to enjoy. The equipment was donated by the ECNL through the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Passback program, which has collected and donated close to 1 million pieces of equipment since the program’s inception in 2002.
The ECNL and the U.S. Soccer Foundation intend to use the East Valley clinic to spark the connection between ECNL players to their local communities. More than 90% of ECNL athletes go on to play collegiate soccer. As they develop on their journey to college, these talented female athletes have the opportunity to be role models to the younger Soccer for Success girls, fostering the next generation of female leaders.
Following the clinic, Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley youth are invited to attend the first ECNL National Event of the season, #ECNLPHX, where they will have the opportunity to escort players onto the field at the beginning of a match. #ECNLPHX takes place November 13-15, 2015 at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix and features 196 of the nation’s best female soccer teams, ages 14-18. With ECNL’s support, the Boys & Girls Club anticipates an increase in female participation in soccer while inspiring and connecting these young females with the best role models.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 11, 2015
10:00am – 11:30am
WHERE: Reach 11 Sports Complex
2425 E. Deer Valley Road
Phoenix, AZ 85050
The East Valley clinic is part of a larger movement by the ECNL and the U.S. Soccer Foundation to inspire young players to recognize and realize their potential on the field and beyond.
Launched by the ECNL in 2014, the Amazing Young Women movement is a dynamic platform of digital and local market activations that showcase and celebrate female role models, offering an aspirational focus for all female athletes and teens as they prepare to be our next generation of leaders.
The ECNL intends to stimulate community partnerships with Soccer for Success programs, where ECNL athletes can mentor younger girls in their communities and inspire the next generation of leaders. The ECNL is targeting the five markets that host their ECNL National Events, including Phoenix, AZ; Sanford, FL; Houston, TX; San Diego, CA; and Zarephath, NJ, to activate with these Soccer for Success community connection programs.
Nationally, young women represent roughly one third of Soccer for Success participants. This partnership is an opportunity to increase female participation in Soccer for Success by providing young women with a chance to connect with female athletes engaged in ECNL. Through peer-to-peer mentorship at community activations, female Soccer for Success participants will learn soccer skills from young women that they can identify with and feel empowered to continue their engagement in soccer and become their communities’ next generation of leaders.
